How to train for an ultra: the step up to 100km + 25km team training

Thursday, May 10, 2012
With interest ramping up for The North Face 100 ultra in the Blue Mountains in under two weeks time (May 19), and with thoughts to our own ultra later this year - the Surf Coast Century (www.surfcoastcentury.com.au/ 22 September), we thought it would be prudent to have a look at training programs for such long form trail running events.

Surf Coast Century ambassador Julian Spence has developed two specific training programs to date (i) for those stepping up to 100km for the first time and (ii) for those thinking of just doing a leg of the SCC as part of a team, meaning a 25km stretch or so.

Check out his advice here.

These two training programs provide the basis of a week by week plan on what to do, how far to run and what types of sessions you need to do to achieve your objective safely and enjoyably on the day.
